Volunteers and staff joining together to complete exterior work in order to reopen the Senior Center

Vieques has an aging population and the Senior Center is a vital resource, comprised of multiple buildings in the Monte Santo neighborhood. We worked in community with staff members and a wide roster of volunteers to scrape and paint all of the exterior walls of the group of buildings that comprises the senior center, as well as the interior walls of the cafeteria and activity room. We also sealed the roof of the central pavilion and main activity building.

All in all, this constituted over ten weeks of work and more than 1500 hours of labor. We were so happy to complete the work in time for the center to host a Mother’s Day celebration in the pavilion.
Many thanks to the Fluor Corporation for their donation which enabled this work to move forward.
